KINKY MIDNIGHT MADNESS films

In anticipation of Hitoshi Matsumoto’s upcoming racy comedy R100, Midnight Madness takes a look at past TIFF screenings that tickle our kinkier side.

The Raspberry Reich(2004) – dir. Bruce LaBruce

Controversial Canadian filmmaker Bruce LaBruce is no stranger to scandal, and his 2004 film The Raspberry Reich effectively satirizes the age of terrorism in an unflinching assault on the senses. Filmed out of Germany, the film astonished audiences with graphic sexuality set alongside a homoerotic anarchist storyline and must be seen to be believed.
Wadd: The Life & Times at John C. Holmes (1999) dir. Cass Paley

Legendary porn star John C. Holmes became something of a household name thanks to Mark Wahlberg’s portrayal in the Hollywood blockbuster Boogie Nights(1997). Cass Paley takes a decidedly more sympathetic look at the icon in this documentary featuring candid and thought-provoking interviews with his friends, family and professional rivals.

Naked Killer(1994) dir. Clarence Fok

A bizarre and twisted tale of sex, violence and vengeance, Naked Killer remains a critically-acclaimed cult favorite in spite of its controversial content, which includes (but is certainly not limited to) scenes of castration and martial arts.

Dr. Caligari (1989) Dir. Stephen Sayadian

A pseudo-sequel to the German classic The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari (1920), director Stephen Sayadian twists the familiar tale into an outrageous and unrelenting sex comedy.
