What Did People Say About WITCHING AND BITCHING?

I think we all needed a few days to fully process what we saw at the Ryerson on Saturday for the world premiere of Alex de la Iglesia's Witching and Bitching and the final night of Midnight Madness 2013. The Spanish director's film, completed almost days before, blew the audience away and, as always, they had a lot to say about it!

It was a wild ten days of bloody glaciers, haunted mirrors, zombie cheerleaders, and whatever Why Don't You Play In Hell was, and it was great to find out what the Midnight Madness audience thought about the lineup, screenings, and the Q&A.  And, of course, the inflatable Spider Man.

Until next year!

Pics From The Wild, Crazy World Premiere of WITCHING AND BITCHING!

One last night of Midnight Madness' 25th anniversary, and it was one of the wildest nights in a week of complete insanity. Inflatable Spider-Man made his triumphant return, we saw a frenetic, fever dream of a movie in Witching and Bitching, and Alex De La Iglesia did one hell of a Q&A.  Ian Goring brings you the highlights!

The perfect night for the last Midnight!

Ah, so bittersweet.  These seats won't see another Midnight Madness audience until next year.
Witching and Bitching was one of the most out-of-control films ever to be screened at Midnight Madness. Keep an eye out for it!

Hitfix's Drew McWeeny Says AFFLICTED Is One of TIFF's Best!

Monday night's screening of Afflicted caught a lot of us by surprise with its fresh take on found footage horror and two completely riveting leads that held nothing back. Over at Hitfix, well-known critic Drew McWeeny (who, incidentally, appears in TIFF selection Jodorowsky's Dune) proclaimed the Canadian production one of the best in the entire Festival.  High praise!

Derek Lee and Clif Prowse managed to wring new life out of one of the most over-used horror concepts, and it's entirely because of how smart and slick their debut feature is. They co-star as themselves in the film that takes place during a year-long trip around the world, and when they run into a supernatural horror, they find themselves trapped in a nightmare that feels all the more real thanks to the clever way they've shot the film and the exceptional stunt and effects work. This is a canny debut from guys who seem ready for Hollywood to discover them, and I have a feeling we'll be hearing more about them and "Afflicted" in the future.
Let's hope that Drew's right and we see some new work from these talented new voices in horror very soon.  Might I suggest an all-isopod remake of Rosemary's Baby?
