RIGOR MORTIS Gets US Distribution Through WELL GO USA!

Some people will do anything for distribution.
It's always great to see one of the smaller films at Midnight Madness get distribution love, and one of the most exciting films in this year's lineup has done just that.  ShockTillYouDrop.com is reporting that Rigor Mortis, which features one of my favourite trailers of the year, has landed a US distribution deal through the great folks at Well Go USA Entertainment and will see a North American release in early 2014, though I'm sure you'll be biting every neck that gets between you and the Midnight Madness premiere on the 11th!
Well Go USA is one of the few female-run distribution companies, under the watchful eye of president Doris Pfardrescher, who has a fantastic taste for genre flicks.  The Texas-based distribution company has championed such films as Herman Yau's Ip Man: The Final Fight and  Johnnie To's Drug War, which is currently enjoying a run at TIFF Bell Lightbox. You can follow them on Twitter at @wellgousa or find them on Facebook here. To quote our editor Carol Borden, "sisters are distributin' for themselves!"

RIGOR MORTIS Screening Times:
Wednesday, Sept 11th, 11:59 PM RYERSON
Thursday, Sept 12th, 12:45 PM TIFF BELL LIGHTBOX 2
Friday, Sept 13th, 6:00 PM SCOTIABANK 9

Beyond the Madness: LIFE WITHOUT PRINCIPLE

While Midnight Madness is clearly the focal point of the whole festival, there are some films fans might be interested in from outside the program. Tonight, Midnight Madness Alumnus Johnnie To brings his new drama, Life Without Principle, to TIFF. It stars Denise Ho with Midnight Madness alumni, Lau Ching-Wan and Ritchie Yen, who co-starred with Leon Lai in last year's MM pick, Fire of Conscience.

Life Without Principle screening times:
Monday Sept. 12, VISA Screening Room (The Elgin), 9pm
Wednesday, Sept. 14, TIFF Bell Lightbox 1, 3:30pm
Saturday, Sept. 17, Scotiabank Theatre 3, 8:30pm

Torontoist Excited About LIVID

Torontoist.com named its top 11 picks for TIFF 11. Devoted midnight maniacs will immediately recognize four of the names on the list:

Julien Maury and Alexandre Bustillo who showed us all how much damage a simple pair of scissors could do in À l'intérieur (Midnight Madness 2007).

Pen-ek Ratanaruang who presented 6ixtynin9 at Midnight Madness 2000.

And Johnnie To who brought us the GREATEST. ACTION. MOVIE. EVER: Fulltime Killer (Midnight Madness 2001). That is an indisputable title which I am allowed to confer because I'm a blogger. Don't believe me? Go watch it... Now... See, told you!

Here's some of what they had to say about their films at TIFF11:

Julien Maury and Alexandre Bustillo’s Livid ...promises some of the same claustrophobic indoors tension of Inside. And if it’s even half as tense and pants-shittingly gnarly, then all you sicko gorehounds out there are in for a treat.

Johnnie To’s Life Without Principle ...is a heist caper and mini–morality drama involving a bank teller, a small-time crook, and a cop. Sounds promising.

Pen-ek Ratanaruang’s Headshot ...is about a cop who gets double-crossed and shot in the head, then wakes up three months later to find that he sees the whole world upside down. ...sounds amazingly trippy and inventive...
