It's a tweet-off: Super's James Gunn vs Roger Ebert!

From the "so crazy I wouldn't have believed it 'til I saw it" file comes this gem from Jennie Punter at The Globe and Mail:

In what promises be the most raucous (yet sporadically quiet) industry event, renowned film critic and voracious tweeter Roger Ebert – who mixes politics and ingredients from “The Pot” into his numerous daily 140-character missives – will let his fingers do the talking as he debates film-biz issues with panel of online critics, along with director and blog star James Gunn and his Super star Rainn Wilson (The Office). Does this mark the first Twitter game show? Will Ebert’s thousands of followers log in and crash the party … or the server? Tune in from anywhere. (Sept. 11, 4 p.m., Filmmaker’s Lounge, 134 Peter St.)

So check out the twitter Battle Royale tomorrow and make sure to be at the premiere of Super tonight!

Super screens:
Friday, Sept. 10. 11:59pm Ryerson
Monday, Sept. 13. 9:30am Varsity 8
Saturday, Sept. 18. Scotiabank Theatre 4

Tickets can be purchased at the official TIFF site.

SUPER: Real Life Superheroes

I'm not talking about EMT's, firefighters, police officers or cats who wake their owners in an emergency, though they are heroes all. I'm talking heroes with flashy names making a difference in flashy suits. Yes, they are there--protecting your community, patrolling your streets. "This American Life" had a whole story about real life heroes and the website Real Life Superheroes has a registry as well as information and articles of interest to citizens and the superhero community alike.

And if Unbreakable, Kick-Ass and just about every Batman movie is anything to go by, as soon as there are heroes, there are villains. (And concerned newspaper editors writing columns). Almost as if heroes generate them as much as their nefarious activities demand a heroic response. It is a law of nature that haters gotta hate. So behold, the inevitable response:

Super Premieres Tonight!

I am officially throwing down the gauntlet: Fubar II set the bar for enthusiasm pretty high last night. This is the first time I’ve ever seen Colin have to yell into the mic to be heard over the crowd check it out below!

But I think the audience for Super can top it! We’re talking about a film the brings Rainn Wilson, Ellen Page, Liv Tyler, and Nathan F’in Fillion all within 1 degree of separation from Kevin Bacon.

If that doesn’t get you excited, check out this page at director James Gunn’s official website with all sorts of Super goodness.

Everyone’s yammering about festival parties in the papers, want to know where the real party is at? The Ryerson at Midnight tonight with over 1000 people all watching Super!

Saturday, Sept. 18. Scotiabank Theatre 4
